Getting to One Wacker

These days Lyft and Uber are your friends. From whichever airport you land, find the “Ride share app” pick up area and summon a ride. If you Come into Midway you can take the train. The Orange line runs every 7 minutes and when you exit the Washington/Wells Stop, the tower is 1 block away. There are ticket vending machines outside the station at the airport, hard to miss them.

Travel and Lodging

Remember Chicago Roboto doesn’t do a hotel room block. You’ve got a $175/night stipend. Book an AirBNB or the hotel you get points at and send us the receipt for reimbursement. There are several hotel options within a five-block (Gotta love city blocks, nice and compact and easy units of measure) walk.

Speaker/Sponsor Reception

We host a reception just for our speakers and sponsors. It’s the night before the conference starts (For 2020 that’s Sunday night). It starts at 6pm and features appetizers and drinks. It’s our chance to say hi and thank our speakers and sponsors before the conference begins.

Conference Days

Chicago Roboto 2020 is April 13-14. That’s a Monday and Tuesday. The doors will open at 7:30 am and the conference will begin at 9:00.

Reimbursements

Chicago Roboto Tries to ensure that we’re as approachable and accessible as possible for speakers of all levels. We cover travel ($500 domestic and $1500 international) as well as $175/night for two nights lodging.

Please send reimbursements in BEFORE the conference. The sooner the better. It makes budgeting easier to not have too many outstanding and unknown expenses out there.

If your employer can cover your lodging and/or flight, we are happy to list them as an awesome company sponsor; they’ll be on the website and banners at the venue. The money we save will be used to make the conference more awesome for everyone.

Make the Most of Chicago Roboto

You’ve done the hard part, submitted an amazing talk and had it accepted. Now let everyone know.

  • Spread the word on social media. Follow other speakers and engage the community.
    • Promote your talk, but even more impactful, promote the talk that isn’t yours, that you’re most excited to see.
  • Being a speaker is a big deal put it on LinkedIn, get the most you can out of it 🙂
  • Make sure to reach out to other speakers, expand your network if you don’t know them.
  • Remember, the more you help us promote the better. Your voice carries further than ours. We’ll RT and signal boost but you tweeting about Chicago Roboto goes WAY further than us tweeting about… us.
  • Our hashtag is #chicagoroboto

Important Details

If your employer can cover your lodging and/or flight, we are happy to list them as an awesome company sponsor; they’ll be on the website and banners at the venue. The money we save will be used to make the conference more awesome for everyone.

45 Minute talks receive full reimbursement support. 20 Minute talks, however, do not unless you are giving two of them.

You are committed to attending the conference in its entirety. It’s tremendously valuable to attendees that speakers are accessible and approachable. Showing up just in time to walk on stage isn’t what we’re looking for and will result in you not being asked back.

You agree to have your talk recorded and published.

You have read and will follow the Code of Conduct.
